Science-backed Avocado Nutrition Information
Avocados are sodium, sugar, and cholesterol-free, and contribute nearly 20 nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, naturally good fats, and phytonutrients.
Avocados are rich in plant compounds important to good health, including phenolic compounds, carotenoids, and phytosterols.
Antioxidants — such as vitamins C, E, and lutein — help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. Avocados contain 4% of the DV for vitamin C; 6% of the DV for vitamin E; and 136 micrograms of lutein per serving.
The unsaturated fat in avocados can act as a nutrient booster by helping increase the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, K, and E. Avocados naturally contain 6 grams of this good fat per serving, making them a unique fruit.
MyPlate recommends that adults consume 2-3 cups of vegetables per day, depending on calorie needs. One avocado counts as one cup of vegetables.
