Healthy eating patterns may reduce the risk of some cancers.

An observational study among 45,289 men from the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study (HPFS) and 67,039 women from the Nurses’ Health Study (NHS) assessed the relationship between eating avocado and cancer risk.

Regular weekly consumption of avocado was associated with a lower rate of total cancer among men. Males consuming avocado regularly also had a decreased risk of colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and bladder cancer.

A preliminary association between avocado intake and breast cancer was seen in post-menopausal women and women without diabetes; however, this surprising finding was not replicated in an additional analysis using a more recent database.
