Recipe Description:

Juicy strawberries muddled with creamy avocado naturally sweeten and give a depth of flavor to this refreshing twist on a traditional margarita. Keep it alcohol-free if you wish for a delightful and festive mocktail, or add an ounce of tequila for a cocktail option.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large (or 3 small) strawberries, plus one additional strawberry for garnish
  • 1/4 ripe, fresh avocado, pitted, peeled, and sliced in half lengthwise (one slice for muddling, one slice for garnish)
  • 2 oz. fresh lime juice (the juice of ~2 limes)
  • Lime wheel for garnish
  • 1 oz. Tequila of choice (optional)
  • Sparkling water to taste (approximately ¼ - ½ cup)
  • Ice

Instructions:

  1. Place strawberries and avocado in the bottom of a cocktail shaker and use a muddler to crush the fruit, releasing the strawberry juice and mashing the avocado.
  2. Add the lime juice, tequila (if using) and a splash of sparkling water to the shaker, top with ice and shake briefly to combine.
  3. Strain into a lowball glass filled with ice, top with more sparkling water to taste, and garnish with a strawberry, lime wheel, and avocado slice.

Notes & Tips:

A cocktail shaker, muddler and cocktail strainer help to make this recipe. If you do not have these items, though, you can use a tall drinking glass in place of a shaker, a fork for muddling the fruit, and a small mesh kitchen strainer in place of a cocktail strainer. Simply stir with a fork instead of shake if you are not using a shaker.
