Learn how guacamole originated.
The Aztecs were the creators of this recipe originally called “ahuacamolli” which translates to “avocado sauce”, originally from central and southern Mexico. At that time it was believed to be an aphrodisiac recipe, thus increasing its popularity1.
Over the years, guacamole has undergone several changes where ingredients have been added or removed, but the foundation remains the same: avocado, onion, tomato and chili pepper, the typical ingredients of the Mesoamerican region.

Here are a few different ways you can prepare guacamole and enjoy it with family and friends.

Molcajete Salsa Guacamole: The “molcajete” is a traditional Mexican cooking tool made of volcanic stone, which when used instead of a blender or processor, gives a unique and different flavor to recipes. This is the most traditional way to prepare guacamole.

Smokin’ Hot Guacamole: This guacamole recipe carries the spicy flavor of chipotle chili, which goes great with french fries or your favorite veggie sticks. A new way to enjoy guacamole!

Guacamole with Mango: A delightful way to celebrate Guacamole Day with an original mix of ingredients and habanero pepper. If you prefer a spicier flavor, this will become your favorite.

Chicken, Black Beans and Avocado Arepas with Avocado Dressing: Beans are another food passed down from pre-Hispanic cultures, which, together with avocado, make for a delicious combination to enjoy with arepas.
These recipes allow you to try different types of guacamole prepared with traditional Hispanic ingredients. Whether celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, Guacamole Day or any other holiday of the year, avocados are always a great choice for any meal. Enjoy!
